Beautiful Commodity

We are all born
so beautiful
the greatest tragedy is
being convinced we are not – Rupi Kaur

This work is an exploration into the acts of labour which women go through to achieve what is considered beauty, in western culture. Society’s pressure from consumerism and capitalism means the female body is treated like a product which needs constant attention and improvement to maintain it's desirability.

Influenced by fourth wave feminism, these images encourage choice in self representation and promote body positivity among women. The printed images will be presented on a fabric and embroidered with a gold thread. They aim to act as a visualisation of the labour women exercise to be considered feminine and promote the indulgence of self-love.
